Spotlight Program Returns, Structure Appears Unchanged

The Spotlight program appears to be structured much as it was in Diamond Dynasty for MLB The Show 25 — which is to say that it will once again blend "team of the week" and "team of the month" aspects to celebrate and churn content reflecting the real-life performances of the MLB season. For April's Drop 1, that means spotlighting the preeminent performers of Opening Day and Week in MLB action, and putting out a 90 OVR Kevin McGonigle of the Tigers as the first Drop reward path capstone.

McGonigle is a Spotlight Series card, and the only one guaranteed from that Series from this release: There's also an April Spotlight Drop 1 pack on the XP reward path, but that could contain either the higher-OVR Spotlight Series players (90 OVR versions of Chase DeLauter and Emerson Hancock), or the lower-OVR Topps Now Series players (88 OVR versions of Justin Crawford, Owen Caissie, and Dominic Smith) that round out the Spotlight program. The full XP reward path, which requires a mix of Moments, Missions, and/or Collection completion to finish, holds Topps Now editions of Andres Gimenez and Carson Benge, four The Show packs, a Gold WBC Classic Series pack, 5,000 Season XP, the April Spotlight Drop 1 pack, and McGonigle for completion.

The April Spotlight Drop 1 pack is available in the Show Shop for 25,000 Stubs, with a quantity limit of four. It will be available through the customary 3 p.m. Eastern/noon Pacific refresh time for Diamond Dynasty, but not through next Thursday, April 9; instead, it's up until next Friday, April 10, indicating that this Thursday drop of Spotlight content is likely a one-off, with future Spotlight releases tied and timed to the larger Friday content drops of full programs within DD.

The Best Players in April Spotlight Drop 1

As you might expect, the first players to be featured in a program that will run through the entirety of the Major League Baseball season are unlikely to be the best that end up being part of it at any point this year in Diamond Dynasty. Still, there are a few really nice pieces for teams in this release.

  • 88 OVR Topps Now Justin Crawford: Yeah, it's odd that a Topps Now player might be the best of a Spotlight drop, but Crawford comes out of the box as an elite contact hitter and centerfielder, with 100+ Contact against both righties and lefties and 101 Batting Clutch to keep him viable in vital situations at the dish and a 99 Speed/Stealing combo that is obviously as good as it gets on the basepaths. His Fielding is also quite good, with nothing worse than a 76, so he'll be about as good as it gets in center.
  • 90 OVR Spotlight Chase DeLauter: The Guardians superprospect's barrage of homers to begin 2026 has been well-translated here, with 90 Power against righties and 85 Contact/Clutch that will make it easy to access. He's a good fielder with decent speed and a fine arm, too, but not exceptional.
  • 88 OVR Topps Now Owen Caissie: However, it's a little disappointing that DeLauter, who will be pricey by virtue of his inclusion in a pack rather than the XP reward path, has a near-clone available for free in the form of Caissie, who sacrifices Vision to have stats almost as good as DeLauter in every respect. To be clear, that's a win for grinders, but a bummer for Cleveland fans who might be hyped to splash Stubs on their most exciting new addition only to have him be a bit underwhelming in game.
  • 90 OVR Spotlight Emerson Hancock: The only pitcher in Drop 1 is by default the best one, but Hancock — fresh off taking a no-hitter into the seventh inning in his first start of the year — does have a four-seam fastball with 99 Break and a 95 MPH velo and a sinker with 99 Break and 94 velo, which is a rather imposing combination of two similar pitches to play with. His attributes aren't particularly noteworthy, but expertly working with those pitches — along with a decent sweeper and circle change — could make him tricky to hit well.

Common Courtesy Program Updated With Diamonds

As hinted at on April Fool's Day, the Common Courtesy program was updated at reset on Thursday to allow for the completion of its XP reward path and the acquisition of the Ballin' is a Habit pack at the end of it.

But the other big update is what else is unlocked through completion of the Collection that awards the 9,936 Stars to reach full XP reward path completion: Diamond versions of Kerry Wood, Carlos Peña, Jorge Soler, and Trevor Story, the latter checking in as a 90 OVR Diamond from the Rockies that is immediately one of the better shortstops in all of Diamond Dynasty.

To obtain these Diamonds, players must obtain the 64 Stars in Common Courtesy to get the Common versions of all four players, then lock them into a new Collection that replaced the one available for just 24 hours which yielded a Deluxe New Threads pack.
