AL, NL East Legends Highlight Multiplayer 7, World Series Rewards
Arriving as they are on the first day of September, the Multiplayer 7 Program and the latest batch of World Series-level rewards for Ranked Seasons success really ought to be endgame-level cards in Diamond Dynasty. For the most part, they are — and also for the most part, they hail from the AL and NL East.
Of the five cards on the Multiplayer 7 Program's XP reward path, three — Marlins hurler Dontrelle Willis, Blue Jays shortstop Tony Fernandez, and Yankees second baseman Alfonso Soriano, the last of the five on the list — are AL or NL East representatives. And on the World Series side, both players — a second Marlins starter, Anibal Sanchez, and Braves third baseman Terry Pendleton — hail from the NL East. It's kind of a bummer for a bumper crop of players from just one coast in a content release, even if getting Marlins cards in play helps serve one of DD's most underrepresented franchises; the Yankees are already nearly peerless in terms of Legends and Flashbacks inclusions, and really didn't need Soriano at second (or any of his outfield secondaries) to be competitive as a theme team.
That said: Pendleton, Sánchez, and Soriano are clearly excellent cards, while Willis, Fernandez, Johnny Bench, and Ron Santo all fill holes. Pendleton's maybe the best contact switch-hitter in DD, with a buttery-smooth swing that should make his attributes sing; Sánchez, whose card is a tribute to his 2006 no-hitter with the Marlins, gets 120/116 H/9 attributes against righties and lefties to go along with 125 Pitching Clutch, all of which might make up for a 95 MPH fastball being his primary pitch; Soriano is going to be very good at everything and bad at nothing except maybe defense in the outfield.
Bench is one of DD's finest defensive catchers and should not concede too much at the plate to have that status, also, and should be the best of the reward path players en route to Soriano. Fernandez is basically Ozzie Smith but a Blue Jay; Willis has his windup but will be meat against righties; Santo gets exceptional defensive stats, especially for a player who will end up at second or third, but is maybe not quite the hitter you want, with no Contact stat cracking 110 or Power stat at triple digits before Parallel or other boosts.
This Multiplayer Program and Ranked Seasons reset follows the rest we've seen in Diamond Dynasty in closely tracking the Inning Program, and is set to run until September 29, just after the September 25 expiration of the 7th Inning.
Colton Cowser Receives Supercharge After Game-Winning Home Run Robbery
One of the most exciting plays of this — or maybe any? — MLB season happened on Monday night, as Colton Cowser flung himself against the Coors Field wall and his glove over it in hopes of denying the Rockies' Jake McCarthy a walk-off homer to beat the Orioles.
That he did just that was a scintillating feat for Baltimore, which moved back to .500 — and, somehow, a half-game back of the final Wild Card spot in the hopelessly bloated middle-class of the AL — with the walk-off home run robbery. But it can only be replicated to a certain degree in Diamond Dynasty, apparently, with Cowser's card being supercharged for a couple of days — with perfect Fielding stats, of course — and a hot-swap of his card art to a picture of him all but doing the Jumpman logo that Jordan Brand has used for decades except as a real-life athletic pose.
This is reminiscent of DD doing something similar for A's outfielder Denzel Clarke after a majestic catch a year ago, or honoring Jo Adell for his robberies earlier this season, but it's worth it to belabor this point: Those cards are tributes to the players' moments, but the moments themselves are apparently impossible to replicate as one-off experiences, even with the Moments technology that obvious is part of the vertebrae of MLB The Show, and you'll simply need to hope someone floats a robbable ball in Cowser's vicinity to do so.
It saps a bit of the magic of that moment for the recognition to not include the chance to recreate it, doesn't it?
