ALDS, NLDS Series Programs Yield Playoff Performers

Three of the four Division Series playing out in the MLB Postseason have concluded, with the Chicago White Sox and Cleveland Guardians still set for a decisive Game 5, and so MLB The Show has added new programs for the three completed series, with the Sox-Guards one coming on Tuesday, October 13.

These programs are essentially copy-and-paste jobs from the Wild Card Series programs dropped last week, with Moments and Missions related to the big moments of those series and the teams that contested them. And for a trio of series that were not exactly decided by big names, the lack of star power in the player pool shouldn't be surprising.

Maybe the biggest name of all of the players in the three programs is Braves center fielder Michael Harris II, who was Atlanta's lone reliable offensive performer, and gets a solid but unnecessary — given that, y'know, there's a Hall of Fame Andruw Jones card — 99 OVR upgrade. If the highest wattage doesn't belong to Harris, though, it's either Gerrit Cole or Manny Machado, who get their own aging-star-in-a-losing-effort cards in their own programs. The biggest name to get a card from an advancing team is probably postseason monster Enrique "Kiké" Hernández, whose homer helped lift the Dodgers past the Braves in Game 3; if it's not him, it's Brewers center fielder Garrett Mitchell, whose speed and defense stand out on his 99 OVR.

So players will assuredly be holding out for a new José Ramírez for the Guardians, or maybe a Munetaka Murakami from the White Sox, when that program drops.

The existing programs do bolster a couple of participating teams' relief options — the Braves bullpen gets 99 OVR Ray Kerr and Didier Fuentes cards; the Rays add a Bryan Baker — but generally do not match up well with the bigger names (Bryce Harper, Ben Rice, Austin Riley) that featured in the Wild Card Series programs.

Postseason Diamond Quest, Mini Seasons, Event Expand the Grind

What does help expand Postseason content in Diamond Dynasty more on this Friday is the addition of new Postseason-flavored Diamond Quest and Mini Seasons experiences, as well as a Postseason Event Program.

The Diamond Quest sets up players to go after Dennis Eckersley and George Springer as Epic-tier rewards, and is on a relatively small and straightforward pennant-shaped board. The Mini Seasons, which lacks specific Postseason player rewards, makes up for that with enormous other rewards for using Postseason cards, like a repeatable goal of 10-pack of Ballin' is a Habit packs for 54 strikeouts with those pitchers and other ones that will reward Chase Pack 28 (and a chance at Larry Walker), Vault Choice Packs, and a repeatable two-pack of Deluxe Packs. The Event Program is a carbon copy of most, but does have Andy Pettitte and Ivan Rodriguez cards on its XP reward path.

I-Rod might be the best of the four cards on offer between the Event Program and Diamond Quest, coming in as a switch-hitting catcher with nearly maxed-out Contact and almost perfect defense, but Pettitte is a fine lefty option, Eckersley has his usual exquisite 1-2 punch of slider and sinker, and Springer ... uh, he has 124 Power against lefties, I guess? For a card that was earned by what could've been a World Series MVP performance, it's wildly unimpressive.

The Postseason Diamond Quest and Mini Seasons do not expire, while the Event Program is available for two weeks, ending on October 23.

Other News and Notes

  • Also coming on Tuesday, in conjunction with the last ALDS Program, are a new Conquest map and the Retro Championship Series Program.
  • But coming on Wednesday are "three new programs," with no other information given. I like surprises!
  • That's the only formally scheduled content on the Coming Soon rundown between now and October 23, when the 9th Inning and next (and perhaps last?) Weekend Classic arrive. The two 2026 Championship Series Programs do have a 10.TBD designation, and will likely show up the day after the respective series end.
