With a Legends and Flashbacks Collection looming, a new Event is set to aid the market with cheaper cards.

Legends and Flashbacks Event and Program Arrive Before New Collection

The big Legends and Flashbacks Collection with two versions of Miguel Cabrera has proved a tough nut to crack for many if not most Diamond Dynasty players in MLB The Show 26. Fewer than 24,000 players have the 99 OVR Cabrera that comes with full completion of the Collection, though slightly more than 120,000 have the 95 OVR one that serves as a sort of highway marker. So with another Legends and Flashbacks Collection coming this Friday — possibly including a 99 OVR Joe Mauer, if prominent leaks are to be believed, but more likely including whomever the in-game hint of a .409 OBP is pointing to; here's the list of players who have hit that in descending order of homers hit, via Stathead — the Legends and Flashbacks Event and its corresponding Program are here to help make progress toward those Collections slightly easier.

The Event, which runs through June 18 at 2 p.m. Eastern/11 a.m. Pacific, challenges players to use any Legends and Flashbacks players, but none from any other Series but Live, and its Program has a 100-Star reward path that has two Deluxe Choice Packs and one Premier Choice Pack for full completion. This isn't a ton of material, with that haul effectively rewarding just five players for grinding the Event in full, but playing it alongside the new Multiplayer 4 Program does mean some double-dipping will inevitably occur.

And it is also worth remembering that just three fully-fledged Programs — Cityscapes, Mural, and Vintage — have been released since the Cabrera Collection. While having those larger Collections close to fully complete will surely be necessary for whatever the new Collection's requirements end up being, there have been ways to accrue players for those Programs in DD for weeks and weeks, and so prices have not ballooned for those players.

The really disappointing thing about this new Program is, in turn, a lack of any way to get St. Patrick's Day Series players, whose Rare-tier players are only found in Packs that have long since been unavailable, forcing prices to the moon. Any of Adam Dunn, Kyle Finnegan, and Wade Boggs will run you 40K Stubs for an 89 OVR player that is not an upper-tier card in early June, and all of them are necessary to obtain the Cabrera Collection Voucher. Adding just one St. Patrick's Day Pack to this Program would have been an excellent way of addressing that pain point for players.

Multiplayer 4 Program, Ranked Rewards Come Studded with Red Diamonds

Of course, anyone playing the Legends and Flashbacks Event in the coming week will be making progress in the new Multiplayer 4 Program, which is the first of its kind to feature 95+ OVR Red Diamond-level cards in its rewards.

The five cards on the XP reward path for it, which is climbed by accruing total bases, strikeouts, homers, Parallel XP, and hits, stolen bases, and wins in Battle Royale, are a 94 OVR Billy Williams, a 94 OVR Jonathan Broxton, a 95 OVR Wally Joyner, a 95 OVR Jazz Chisholm Jr., and a 96 OVR Nolan Ryan who will compete with May's Lightning Jacob Misiorowski to be the premier fireballer in the game. Three Deluxe Choice packs are also on that path, plus a new World Series Rewind Choice Pack that has the cards that were World Series-tier rewards in Ranked for its first two seasons: 92 OVR Christian Yelich and Trea Turner cards and 90 OVR Geraldo Perdomo and Clayton Kershaw ones.

The new Ranked rewards for this latest season are also now available, and are also Red Diamonds: A 96 OVR Darren O'Day enters as the new best sidearm/submarine pitcher in Diamond Dynasty, while a 96 OVR Jorge Polanco stands to be the new best second baseman available, given his switch-hitting and excellent hitting attributes.

The Multiplayer 4 Program is once again structured around gleaning 150,000 XP from its various Missions, but the wheel of infinite random rewards is also returning, with the same static and repeatable 5,000 XP available for pitching nine innings in multiplayer modes. Players will do well to remember that requires complete innings from hurlers: Partial innings do not increment toward that Mission, unfortunately.
