Egg Hunt Program Hops Into Diamond Dynasty With Usual Mysteries

Diamond Dynasty's popular Egg Hunt program is back for another hunting party. What do the game's hints point to?

Egg Hunt Program Structure

As veteran Diamond Dynasty players will recall from years past, Egg Hunt revolves around mystery — like an actual Easter egg hunt — and asks players to puzzle out the meanings of cryptic clues and hints in DD to obtain the program XP and Eggs to obtain the rewards on offer.

This year's version is heavier on the mystery than some, with Moments that have clues in their descriptions, explicit Mystery Missions, and seven Eggs that earn progress on the XP reward path.

That XP reward path holds four Diamond players — Tyler Rogers, Phil Rizzuto, Jason Varitek, and Jackson Merrill — earnable via the Moments, Missions, and Egg Collections, and also a Deluxe Egg Hunt pack, which contains one of 12 Egg Hunt Series players not available on the reward path, highlighted by Cam Schlittler, James Wood, and Rafael Devers. (It is not immediately clear whether there is a Egg Hunt Series Collection coming, but one is not available as of yet.

Egg Hunt also has a new Event, Swinging Into Spring, which features an 89 OVR Colson Montgomery on its reward path. The Event is focused on Egg Hunt, Spotlight, Topps Now, and Common Courtesy players, and has a familiar structure to Events thus far in MLB The Show 26, with the, uh, somewhat unpopular reward of an extra Chocolate Bunny pack — with Egg Hunt players in it — only obtainable via finishing all the other Missions for the Event and accruing 40,000 Parallel XP within the Event. (On the bright side? That's not limited to any specific players this go-round.)

The new Egg Hunt Conquest map is as straightforward as Egg Hunt content gets: It's a map with six Strongholds featuring teams with Egg Hunt Series players, and there are two Egg Vouchers — more on those momentarily — available as its ultimate rewards.

Finally, there's an Egg Hunt Diamond Quest, the first new one since launch in mid-March. It contains the Pink and Purple Egg as Epic-tier rewards, and Ballin' is a Habit packs as Rare-tier rewards.

Egg Hunt Hints

Note: If you want to tackle the Egg Hunt without being spoiled on what must be done to complete the XP reward path, close this tab here and now.

The descriptions for the Moments in the Egg Hunt program all have suspiciously highlighted text, which is reproduced with boldface here.

  • Tyler Rogers: "You won't need a submarine to dive for any of the eggs in Diamond Dynasty. But Tyler Rogers still throws like it."
  • Phil Rizzuto: "Phil Rizzuto is ready to make a short stop to hunt some eggs."
  • Troy Tulowitzki: "Jason? What about chasin'...eggs...all around Diamond Dynasty."
  • Jackson Merrill: "Complete mystery missions and find eggs all around Diamond Dynasty to finish the Egg Hunt program and earn Jackson Merrill. Do you have what it teggs?"

Taken in order, those bolded letters spell out "Win a game with Wood." That would seem to point to either Kerry Wood or James Wood, the two most prominent players surnamed Wood in the Diamond Dynasty player base, and only Kerry Wood can earn a win. But the Mystery Missions help make it make more sense. (The four Moments reward 10 combined Stars for program progress.)

Overall, though, the Mystery Missions in the Egg Hunt Tasks list are a little more cryptic.

  • Wait a Third...: "Remember this one?" If you play through the Moments before attacking the Missions, this one may be obvious: The Phil Rizzuto Moment oddly begins with Clay Holmes, who is a pitcher but is in the box score in this Moment as a designated hitter, on third base. The Mission asks for a win with a player, and putting those together gives us the command to earn a win with Gold Clay Holmes, who is specifically on third base during this moment.
  • Customizable Mini Seasons Length: "Are you liking the ability to change the number of games in Mini Seasons? We'd rate it a 7/28." Asking for 500 Parallel XP in Mini Seasons helps clue in that this is player-specific, but it's the 7/28 bit that makes it all click into place: Accruing 500 Parallel XP with players who wear No. 7 or No. 28 is how you get this one done.
  • Conq Mysterymaxxing: "Bro can't even type a title correctly lol" There is, as noted above, a Moment entitled "Troy Tulowitzki" — but it actually features Jason Varitek. Taken in conjunction with this Mission, that's a hint to do something with Tulo, more specifically get an XBH with Troy Tulowitzki in Conquest. This is presumably completable with both the Gold Tulo obtainable via the Starter program or the Milestone Series Tulo available as the final Live Series Collection reward, but the much, much, much cheaper means of completing the Mission is probably smarter.
  • I'm Blue: "We're literally telling you what to do" This points directly to the "Win a game with Wood" blue text from the Moments, and requires a win; it's completable by earning a win with Kerry Wood in most modes.
  • Whoops, He's Not Supposed to Be There: "Uhhh...what is he doing there?" This is a reference to someone being out of place, obviously, but it takes a little exploration to find that A.J. Puk, a Common-tier player, is inexplicably in the first Diamond round in Battle Royale drafts right now. The Mission asks for a single inning pitched with Puk and is actually completable in most modes, not just Battle Royale.
  • KYLE TEST: "Diamond Quest - KYLE TEST" Hey! It rhymes! And points to hitting one home run with a player named Kyle in Diamond Quest — whether that is Kyle Schwarber, Kyle Isbel, or anyone in between. To be specific, though, this must be completed not in a challenge in Diamond Quest but in one of the games within it, whether that is one of the mini-boss Showdowns, the final Stadium Challenge games, or the game against the roving Zone Sweeper.
  • Back: "7/2/2022" As you might guess, these last four Missions are tied to a back-to-back-to-back-to-back feat from July 2nd, 2022 — when the St. Louis Cardinals smacked back-to-back-to-back-to-back homers in a 7-6 win over the Philadelphia Phillies. The four players with four-baggers in that sequence were Nolan Arenado, Nolan Gorman, Juan Yepez, and Dylan Carlson, and each of these Missions asks not for a homer but an extra-base hit with them in succession, so this first one requires an XBH with Nolan Arenado...
  • Back-to-Back: "7/2/2022" ... and the second requires an XBH with Nolan Gorman...
  • Back-to-Back-to-Back: "7/2/2022" ... and the third requires an XBH with Juan Yepez ...
  • Back-to-Back-to-Back-to-Back: "7/2/2022" ... with the last needing an XBH with Dylan Carlson.

Each of these Missions grants five Stars of program progress, making them worth 50 Stars in total.

Egg Collections

Seven different Egg Voucher collectibles all also give XP reward path progress for collection.

  • Purple Egg: Epic-tier reward in Diamond Quest.
  • Pink Egg: Epic-tier reward in Diamond Quest.
  • Blue Egg: Reward for capturing all Territories on the Egg Hunt Conquest map.
  • Yellow Egg: Reward for capturing all Strongholds on the Egg Hunt Conquest map.
  • Orange Egg: Complete all four Egg Hunt Moments.
  • Bonus Red Egg: 10 doubles in Multiplayer games.
  • Bonus Green Egg: 10 stolen bases in Multiplayer games.

All of these Eggs give 10 Stars for the XP reward path, making them ways to shorten the road to full completion of the program by dabbling in this or that mode.

Egg Hunt Tips and Tricks

For more on the Egg Hunt's many secrets and rewards, see our dedicated Egg Hunt Guide page.

  • The various required players for specific Egg Hunt Missions, especially the more obscure ones like Puk and Yepez, are and will be in high demand, obviously. If you have them in your binder, it might be a smart idea to complete their Missions ASAP and then sell them to recoup Stubs — and it might not be a bad idea to rip some packs in hopes of pulling an temporarily overpriced player.
  • Needing only 100 of the 130 Stars for full completion means you can pick and choose what to complete pretty flexibly. Personally, the Missions that require either buying or having those players don't seem as appealing to me as simply cruising through Diamond Quest and Conquest, so I think I'll be taking the scenic route to Merrill in this one.
  • If you are one of the players — like me — who sometimes wants to save global Innings XP for a pop of progress as Diamond Dynasty transitions from one to the next, as will happen next week for the 2nd Inning, the Egg Hunt program is great for that, as it's hard to accidentally complete the tasks and impossible to accidentally complete the Egg Collections. Unfortunately, there's only 5,000 XP as a reward alongside Merrill, and just 2,500 XP more prior to him on the reward path, but that's still a "free" 7,500 XP to keep in escrow, essentially.
